Gearing Up For 2014!
Greetings from South Florida! Yes, yes, I’m abundantly aware of how hated I am. Is it too soon to tell everyone that stalls are available for the season in 2015? Contact me for more details. It’s not as expensive as you might think, and it’s snow-and-ice free.
In the mean time, here’s some scoop to keep you thinking Spring.
It’s almost here! The 2014 show season starts up for us with the March Magic show in Williamston, NC, March 29-30. From there we head to Morven Park for VADA/Nova’s April 5-6 show, and on from there. If you’d like a copy of our show schedule, drop me an email.
And if you’re thinking of showing with us at all, particularly in March, April and May, I’d love to know your plans so I can make sure I get enough tack stalls and I bring enough staff. If you’d be so kind as to drop me an email with your horse show schedule - don’t worry, I know these things change, so this isn’t gospel - I’d appreciate it!
Never shown with a group before? We have had great successes over the years, and tons of fun while we’re at it. Join us! Email me to learn more.
Team Sprieser South has done a bit of showing in our short time down here. I’ve had tremendous rides on Beverly Thomas’s awesome Fiero, who made quick work of qualifying for the Region 1 Finals at Second Level by winning all four of his Second Level, Test 3 outings over the course of two different shows, scoring no lower than 68% and as high as almost 75%. What a guy!
And my coach, Michael Barisone, is showing my Ellegria at Grand Prix to try and qualify for the Selection Trials for the World Equestrian Games. They took Third in the Grand Prix and won the Grand Prix Special at their first CDI of the year, and are well on their way to a place on the Long List. Woohoo!
Get ready for the 2014 season with Sprieser Sporthorse logowear. We’ve got jackets, hats, tote bags and - new for this year - vests and technical fabric polo shirts. To place an order, or learn more, drop me an email.
Around The Farm
I’ll be back from Florida March 25, and will get a few days of teaching in before we head to North Carolina. You can sign up for a lesson online with both Allison and myself on our e-scheduling site, www.timecenter.com/spriesersporthorse. My schedule is up and running through the end of June.
I’ve also got a few very, very limited times available for short-term training. If you think your horse might benefit from a few days’ tuneup before a show or event, we’d love to help!
We’re welcoming master saddle fitter Colleen Meyer back to Sprieser Sporthorse in April. Colleen brings many years of expertise to her fitting bespoke saddles for dressage and jumping, plus bridles, girths and more. Please get in touch if you’d like an appointment.
I’m also hoping to bring Michael Barisone in for a one- or two-day clinic in late April. No specifics yet, but email me to be put on the list for ride spots.
The biggest piece of news is our Grand Re-Opening Party, for Saturday, April 12. From 1-4, come join us for tours of our new digs, riding demos, and snacks. I’ll send out a more detailed schedule and a list of attractions closer to the date.
Hope to see you (soon!) around the farm.

Around The Farm
Here’s the big news, the one you’ve all been waiting for - we’re back at Clearwater Farm, officially opening for business on Saturday, December 28! (We’ll get some photos up on our Facebook page soon, and expect a video tour on Lauren’s blog next week!)
We’re so excited to show you all our new digs! We’ll have a Grand Opening Party in April, in better weather, but if you’d like a sneak preview, come on by the farm next weekend, the 28th or 29th. Give me a heads up via email so we know to expect you! And to really make the most of it, sign up for a lesson on TimeCenter while you’re at it.
Speaking of lessons, starting 1/1, Allison and I will also raise our lesson rates very slightly. Allison’s lessons will be at $65 each, or $550 for a package of 10. My individual lesson rate will stay the same, $80 each, but there’ll be a small increase in the cost of the package - $650. Lessons off-site still add a $10/lesson travel fee.
As we have done in the past, we’re happy to offer the purchase of multiple packages before the rate increase, to take advantage of 2013 pricing. Contact me for more details.
Gymnastics Sundays are coming back, too! These are lessons Sunday afternoon with Allison with a special emphasis on cavaletti and small gymnastic jumping. These are WELL-LOVED and book quickly, and are appropriate for all levels of jumping experience (or lack thereof!) Email Allison for details.
Hope to see you soon, and Happy Holidays!

End Of Season Scoop
The end is here! The end of the show season, that is. But it’s only the beginning for us at Sprieser Sporthorse. Read on for all the latest news.
THE LATEST SCOOP
Our last show of the season was the USDF National Finals in Lexington, Kentucky. I couldn’t be more proud of Kristin Counterman, who piloted my Bellinger to a 6th place finish in the Open Second Level Freestyle Finals. None too shabby for a rider who turned 13 the week before the show, in a class of seasoned professionals, on a horse who isn’t easy!
I was determined to not repeat my error at the Regional Finals, where I had a fabulous ride on my Stratocaster the day before the Championship class, and then had a horse who was a little tired when it counted. At the National Finals, I ended up with a bit too much horse! But Fender was still fantastic, and was hot and fun in a way that will make him an awesome horse at FEI, and still placed 11th in the Open Third Level Finals. I’m thrilled with him, and looking forward to bigger and better things at Prix St. Georges next year!
You can see Jeff Counterman’s fantastic photos from the whole season at our Facebook page.
Around The Farm
Construction is right on schedule at Clearwater! Barring calamity, we’re all set to move in between Christmas and New Year’s. As we get closer to the day, we’ll close down operations at Morningside to take a few days to move all the horses and their belongings. We appreciate your patience in the scheduling of lessons during this busy time.
With the new amenities on the farm, we’re also going to be increasing rates. Beginning 4/1, full training will increase to $2000 a month, with stalls with a run-out to all-weather lots for $200 a month more. We’ll also be changing the way we run short-term training packages.
Starting 1/1, Allison and I will also raise our lesson rates very slightly.
Please email me for more details.
Allison and I are continuing to offer trailer-in lessons at Clearwater in the afternoons, and lessons at Morningside in the evenings. Our Morningside lessons include a $20 ring fee. You can sign up for lessons online at TimeCenter.
And once we’re back at Clearwater, Gymnastics Sundays are coming back, too! These are lessons Sunday afternoon with Allison with a special emphasis on cavaletti and small gymnastic jumping. These are WELL-LOVED and book quickly, and are appropriate for all levels of jumping experience (or lack thereof!) Email Allison for details.
We’re delighted to welcome Bev Thomas and her lovely gelding Fiero to Team Sprieser! Fiero’s had quite an exceptional show record at Training and First Levels, and we’re thrilled to help them in their advancing journey together.
We’re also very excited about welcoming Wantano, a 10-year-old Dutch gelding we found in Holland for my mom, Judy. Wantano is one of the nicest horses I’ve ever sat on, and we’ll all be fighting for the chance to ride him. Congrats!
Looking Ahead to 2014
We’re already putting together our 2014 show calendar. We’ll have much more information after the start of the new year, but if you’re thinking of making a run for the NAJYRC, Young & Developing Horse Championships, and/or Festival of Champions, you need to start making a plan now. Please email me for a preliminary show schedule.
Because we have so many riders aiming at the NAJYRC this year, we’re planning a freestyle music day, where we’ll bring in a professional freestyle designer to meet with any interested rider - at any level - about making professional freestyles. Training Level through Grand Prix, Pas de Deux; we can set them all up, across a spectrum of prices. If you’re interested, let me know via email.
We’re also planning a Rider Safety Day for sometime in January or February, with representatives from Charles Owen and Point Two Air Vests. Watch this space!
Winter Training Days
Last but not least, I’ve got my tickets home for my winter training days, when I come back from Florida for a few weekends to teach lessons. Those dates are January 18-19, February 15-16 and March 1-2. These lesson times will not be up on our e-scheduling system, www.timecenter.com/spriesersporthorse, but instead will be scheduled via email. So if you want to be on the list for lessons these days, shoot me an email.
Keep your eyes on the Sprieser Sporthorse Facebook page for the latest scoop.
Hope to see you soon!
