Facilities at Clearwater Farm
Sprieser Sporthorse spans over 135 acres of rolling hills – much
of which is available for hacking. Paths are available for riding
over open grassy hills, through woods and along South Run, a tributary
of the Rappahannock River.
Barn
Our stall barn is built of concrete cinder block so
it is cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Our stalls are 12 X
14 feet and each has a window to the outside as well as grated fronts
to the center aisle. The entire barn has rubber matted flooring and
the center aisle is an extra-wide 11' . Our wash
stall offers hot and cold water, and electric heater. We have a full
private tack room, feed room, a rider lounge and private bathroom
with shower, and utility room with washer and dryer for saddle pads,
polo wraps, etc. Real-time video recording and playback is available
for instructional assistance. Exits at each end of the stall barn
offer convenient access to the outdoor arena and the indoor arena,
as well as access to the full farm property for hacking.
Indoor Arena
The indoor arena built in 2007 is 90 feet wide
and 226 feet long with state-of-the art AEST Terra 2000 dust-free
footing which provides appropriate cushioning for your horse's
legs as well as clean dust-free air for everyone’s lungs.
The arena has a band of 8-foot Lexan windows all the way around
which provide great ambient lighting indoors as well as good
air circulation as every other window slides open to bring in
the breezes. One short side of the arena is fully-mirrored, and
additional mirrors are located mid-way on each long side so riders
can review their own riding. A viewing gallery at the other short
end provides seated and heated room for spectators. The main
entrance doorway opens into a mounting area, which is separate
from the riding area in the arena, and a second doorway along
the side is available for exit purposes. The arena is lit for
evening use and overhead fans boost the internal air flow. The
arena has a state-of-the art sound system so riders can practice
their freestyles or just ride to their favorite music. Because
we are geared towards a small boarder population and do not give
group lessons, most riders will have nearly the full arena to
themselves at most times.
Outdoor Arena/Dressage Court
The outdoor arena is regulation dressage-sized (20x60 meters)
with fencing and sand footing like that used at most horse shows.
A grassy perimeter outside the ring allows riders to practice circling
the ring and entering at “A” as in normal showing conditions. We provide
a tented viewing area, as well as flowers at letters to allow horses
to get used to the usual showing “distractions”.
Paddocks and Turnout
All boarding horses are provided with private turnout in
our paddocks which
are rotated on a regular basis to ensure fresh abundant grass. In
addition, paddocks currently in use are clipped and harrowed on a
regular basis for maintenance of a healthy pasture. All paddocks
are appropriately-sized to allow for adequate exercise for the horses
but not unsafe running conditions. Horses are kept separated from
each other by electrified fencing and also at a safe distance from
the outdoor riding arena for the safety of our riders.
Parking and Trailer Loading
Sprieser Sporthorse has an extra-large paved parking area convenient
to the stall barn, and a circular road which allows horse trailers
to turn around without having to back up. All buildings are equipped
with a highly visible video-based security system for your horse's
protection.
Equine Health Care
Dressage horses are not mere pets - they are high-performance athletes.
Full-training clients have access to our infa-red solarium from
Sport Innovations,
which increases circulation, reduces inflammation and bolsters
the immune system. We also offer an electromagnetic blanket, both
at home and at shows. For injury prevention and treatment, we utilize
ice systems from Ice
Horse.
To improve fitness, we offer a 4-horse exerciser from
Centaur Equinecisers. This exceptional machine allows horses to walk,
trot and canter in both directions, with or without a surcingle and
reins, to develop the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems
in young and out-of-shape horses without overexhertion, as well as
improving condition of working horses. The exerciser also offers
us an alternative to turnout during inclement weather.
